Amitabha Buddha, who is also called Amita or Amida Buddha, probably is the best known of the Dhyani Buddhas. Amitabha who is red in color, is the Buddha of Infinite Light and represents the Dharma transforming the afflictions of lust and desire into discriminating wisdom. He is thus the Buddha who purifies the delusion of attachment.

Generally, like all of the five tathagatas, Amitabha sits in the lotus posture with his hands in the mudra of meditative contemplation; sometimes holding a begging bowl. Buddha Amitabha is the lord of the Lotus family, its symbol is the red lotus of compassion and its element is the all-consuming fire that has the power to burn the delusion of attachment.

Amitabha Buddha reigns over Sukhavati, the western paradise, also called the Pure Land (in Tibetan, Dewachen, meaning Great Happiness Pure Land).

This statue is made of copper and has a gold hand-painted face.

Handcrafted by Nepali-Tibetan artisans in Nepal.
