Description
Just as a lamp dispels darkness, offering light from a butter lamp represents removing the darkness of ignorance in order to attain Buddha's luminous clear wisdom. Butter lamps are used in temples and household altars, traditionally using ghee as fuel.

Butter lamps can be offered with the wish that its light illuminates the lower realms and the bardo, pacifying the torment of suffering beings there. They can also be offered so that all beings develop mental clarity and attain long-lasting happiness.
