Green Tara is the goddess of activity: fierce, but still a savior-goddess of compassion. Its been said Avalokiteshvara wept so hard from the intense suffering he saw, a lake formed. Out of that lake was born a lotus, and when that lotus blossom opened, Tara was born.
Green Tara is usually seated with left leg drawn in, right outstretched and foot resting on a lotus blossom, ready to spring into action. Her left hand is in the gesture granting refuge, her right in a gesture of thanks, while holding an utpala flower which symbolizes purity and power. Green Tara is very youthful and robust. The Savioress is adorned with beautiful ornaments of rich jewels and is said to benefit those who are devoted to her by releasing them of fear and anxiety.
