 During a 1998 teaching event in Deer Park, Wisconsin, Rinpoche and many other students had to walk along a path through a garden to reach the place where the teachings were being given. Rinpoche decided to collect and display several small statues along that path. The animal displays each came with a special Dharma message that the students could enjoy as they walked to the teachings each day.

The animal displays became instantly popular and demonstrated Rinpoche's incredible sense of humor. We cannot say that they are beautiful, but they are humorous and convey a profound message that touches our hearts and makes us pause to think...perhaps these are the fairy tale creatures of Rinpoche's pure land!
