Chenrezig—the Compassionate-Eye-Looking One—also known as Avalokiteshvara, embodies the compassion of all buddhas. Reciting the Chenrezig mantra can purify any heavy negative karma that you have create; it also helps you generate compassion for others and to be guided by Chenrezig.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche says in Abiding in the Retreat:

“If you pray to Chenrezig, it is easy to purify negative karma and to have realizations. This is besides the temporary benefits in regard to the works of this life. Without need of much hardship in doing reflection and meditation, there is no doubt that with mere prayer you can be guided by Chenrezig whenever you have problems or fears. And at death time, you will easily be born in the Chenrezig pure land, Potala, or in the Amitabha pure land, Dewachen (Skt: Sukhavati).”

Out of his great compassion for sentient beings, Chenrezig also manifests in different aspects to perform different deeds, such as Amoghapasha (Donyo Shagpa), Simhananda (Lion’s Roar), and Kwan Yin in the Chinese Mahayana tradition.

This Chenrezig Mantra and Request is a practice of om mani padme hum mantra recitation, with prostration to Chenrezig and a request prayer. The sequence of prayers by Lama Zopa Rinpoche at the Thought Transformation Teachings during time of Covid-19 at Kopan Monastery, Nepal, 2020.

3 pages, 2020 edition.
