This extensive practice, which Lama Zopa Rinpoche used to lead when making offerings to the extraordinarily powerful Boudha Stupa in Nepal, is one which Rinpoche himself extracted and translated from the third chapter of the terma teaching, "Liberation Upon Hearing: The Legend of the Great Jarung Kashor Stupa". There, Guru Padmasambhava had explained the benefits of each offering and virtuous actions performed in relation to the stupa.
Although it is to honor the Boudha Stupa, the practice may be performed anywhere, including at one's own home. However, the elaborate procession of offerings, which may be presented as individual items or in related groups, is in a specific order. For these, one is advised to bring to mind the actual offerings that have been laid out in the Boudha offering room, at FPMT centres and on site.
It is possible to adapt the practice to make extensive offerings to other holy objects.
As we see in other offering practices compiled or composed by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, it is essential to regard the holy object as an embodiment of the Three Jewels, inseparable from the root guru; and to present the offerings on the behalf of every kind mother sentient being in the six realms, with bodhicitta motivation.
Practice composed by Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
